Gates, Dr. Howard & Family, 1896
Scope and Contents
Folder includes photos of Asst. Surgeon Howard E. Gates in military uniform - Promoted and mustered Surgeon, 189th N.Y.V., dated Nov. 23, 1864. Other information states - commissioned a surgeon in the Union Army (N.Y. State Volunteers) Aug. 19, 1862. Folder includes other photos of Dr. Gates as a young man and later as a general practioner in Litchfield wearing wire rimmed glasses later in life. Includes photos of Mrs. Howard E. Gates, Dr. Gates mother, Annie Howard Gates - notation states she "developed delicacy of the lungs and moved to Colorado about 1888." Another notation states both Dr. Gates and Annie Gates "moved to Colorado Springs because of her ill health." There are two 5" x 7" photos of "Soldiers and Sailors Club in Colorado Springs, 1921."
