3 letters, in the first letter Winthrop describes an illness he has, things to tell the children, the feeling of eminent battle, and health of some others in the regiment. In the second letter, Winthrop talks about his illness and describes the hospital he goes to. He also talks about news and actions of the regiment along with the places he goes and people he visits. In addition he describes his living quarters and different units in the army. Winthrop discusses money matters and how he misses Lucy also. In the third letter, Winthrop describes his visit with the doctor about his illness, treatment, and his current health. He also mentions stories about other soldiers and money matters.
