3 letters, in the first letter Winthrop describes activities that he is doing as part of his duties as Chaplain on the Sabbath. He also talks about officers in the regiment, the health of some soldiers, his health, and how he misses Lucy. In the second letter, Winthrop points out his location and various other points on the map attached to the letter. In the third letter, he talks about his duties to the soldiers and how they feel about him. He also describes his love for Lucy and how much he misses her. He also discusses how she should not concern herself with writing letters if it affects her health. The last topics he writes of is the arrival of a cavalry unit into camp and the food he is eating.
