5 letters, in the first letter Winthrop talks about religion and the actions of different brigades in the regiment. In the second letter, Winthrop describes the movements of the regiment and reassures Lucy he is alright. In the third letter, Winthrop describes what it is like in his new camp and area, money matters, and food purchases. In the fourth letter, Winthrop describes the weather, a dream he had about his family, and the number of casualties in the regiment. He also discusses religion and his own mortality. The fifth letter concerns movements of the regiment and the actions of the confederates.
