3 letters, in the first letter Winthrop describes the volley of artillery fire the regiment is engaged in, his reaction to finding out Edward Phelps was almost killed in an accident at home, and he tells the other children to be good. In the second letter, Winthrop describes how much he desires to see Lucy again, where the camp is situated, the weather, and Winthrop E. Phelps’s schooling. In the third letter, Winthrop talks about purchases he is making, news from camp, and events going on at home.
