3 letters, in the first letter Winthrop talks about church, his dislike for General McKenzie, the demotion of McKenzie to the rank of Colonel. He also gives advice on how to handle Harriet Phelps’s actions and money matters. In the second letter, he talks about how much he misses Lucy and wants a letter from her, Confederate deserters, and soldiers in the hospital. In the third letter, Winthrop tells about a sermon which he sent into a religious magazine and how he longs to see Lucy. He also responds to hearing about the children going ice skating and becoming more Christian.
