Scope and Contents
3 letters, in the first letter Winthrop talks about his lodgings, the things he is sending home, touring a battle site, and coming home. He also tells about a woman who asks him to look for her husband among the war prisoners. In the second letter, Winthrop talks about the financial state of the southern people in the area he is located. He also tells of almost seeing President Lincoln and messages for the children. In the third letter, Winthrop talks about his wedding anniversary, his remaining term of service, his friend Pastor Read’s church burning down, and sending Confederate dollars to friends.
