Scope and Contents
5 letters, in the first letter Charlotte tells Winthrop when she is coming to visit. In the second letter, she asks Winthrop about his situation in camp, those killed in battle, and tells of news of friends and family. Attached to this letter is a fragment from someone named “Walter,” telling of the location he is residing in the army. In the third letter, Charlotte discusses her reaction to receiving a letter from Winthrop and hearing that he met “Walter.” She also mentions actions of the masons in her town and news of family. In the fourth letter, Charlotte discusses what Walter’s regiment has been doing, the current state of the war, and news of family. In the fifth letter, Charlotte talks about her health, the upcoming draft, and how Walter was wounded.
