4 letters, in the first letter the writer talks about sending money, the election of 1864, church, and his opinion on how the war is going for the confederates. In the second letter, M.M.G. talks about his feelings on war and what the fate of the confederate leaders should be. In the third letter, M.M.G discusses a trip he is going on, where he is going to preach, describes a conference of clerics he went to, the possibility of being drafted, and news of friends and family. In the fourth letter, he talks about his candidacy for an office, who the town would accept to replace him in the congregation, and gives his opinions on the draft riots in New York.
