Blotter No. 18, 1803-1804
Item 8
Scope and Contents
In early December 1803, Boardman shipped barrels of pork and beef to Bridgeport and had goods carted back including sugar, paint, spices, corks, frying pans, whips, shovels, turpentine, brass kettles, hardware, steel, indigo, tobacco, and coffee. An entry from February 4, 1804 for storing shingles notes it may be paid in cash or iron. There is one mention of an African American customer. An entry of 13 February 1804 to Abel Hinn says, "To your order pd Abel Negro 8/10 paid him in humhum." This volume contains several entries for both quantities of finished leather and for tanning. The end of the blotter contains a four page list of cash accounts as well as accounts of flax, hides, and wheat thrashed.
