Scope and Contents

Five letters to Cornelia E. Boardman signed "Sarah" written between 1840 and 1845 from Rutgers Place, NY; Philadelphia, PA; and New Milford, CT containing news of family and friends including many mentions of Cornelia's brother-in-law John Frederick Schroeder's family. The first letter dated 1840 Jul 23 details a trip home from New Milford, describes lace she purchased for Cornelia, and travel plans. In the second letter, dated 1842 Apr 20, Sarah apologizes for not writing on account of illness, notes that she met Eliza in the street and that she had received her ring. Mentions Eliza's departure for Baltimore and her brother coming from the south. On 19 Oct 1823 Sarah wrote from Rutger's Place indicating disbelief that Anna Albert had been there, mentions a visit from the Bishop. A letter from 1845 Mar 6 mentions Polk's inauguration, a visit from a frenchman, and a number of Cornelia's suitors. Asks, "Pray tell me when are you going to stop this terrible warfare with hearts?" and notes that she believes Cornelia will not marry so long as Mrs Boardman is still alive. Mentions marriage of Eliza Albert and that she has lost the use of her limb. Offers Cornelia macaroni from a 50lb box she purchased. The final letter is dated 1845 Aug 19 and again refers to Cornelia's suitors (a Mr. C. of Woodbury) and family travels. The letter is writen from New Milford and addressed to Cornelia in Waterloo, NY.
