Scope and Contents
A June 9, 1828 letter (2026-31-0) from Benjamin Tallmadge to Major John Webb of West Canaan, Connecticut concerning pensions for members of the Revolutionary army. Tallmadge specifically writes to Webb concerning the commission allowed to a Colonel Ogden and others who advocated on their behalf before Congress. He later talks about lobbying the Secretary of the Treasury to avoid placing officers in the Revolutionary army on the same pay establishment as the infantry. Also included is a typed transcript of the letter created by the donor, William Handelman.
