Scope and Contents
Turner, Woodruff & Co. Papers, 2012-16-0, includes business papers such as accounting, goods purchased and received, bank drafts, payables and receivables, promisary notes, as well as poll lists for the Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Quaker societies in Northfield (Litchfield), Connecticut. Isaac Turner (1780-1836) of Northfield and Enoch J. Woodruff (1786-1855) of Watertown and Litchfield opened a general store at the corner of Northfield and Remsen Roads in Northfield in the late 18th century. In 1794 a Hartford rider began delivering mail to the store. Turner and Woodruff also served as mortgage and real estate brokers. According to a document in the Elihu Harrison Papers, the firm ceased operation by 1822.
