Scope and Contents
Huntington writes about state politics; William Bristol, the Federalists’ candidate, was selected to the represent Connecticut in the U.S. Senate by the state’s Senate and Samuel Foot, the republican candidate, was chosen by state’s House of Representatives; Charles Willson Peale has come to New Haven trying to sell another portrait of Washington, but Huntington is not impressed by it; Captain Alden Partridge and his cadets are in New Haven where they are receiving a “cordial and handsome reception”; Partridge and his cadets will be coming to Litchfield in September and the town is to treat them similarly; Newgate prison will be moved to Wethersfield where the inmates will be employed in brick-making; no new banks will be incorporated in the current session without exempting the private property of the stock-holders; a group from Norwich is applying for incorporation of an iron company aided by an investment.
