Scope and Contents
Very detailed letter written from Litchfield to her brother Henry in which she described a trip to Niagara Falls taken with her father Dr. Daniel Sheldon and Miss Mary Pierce via stage coach and the Erie Canal; fellow passengers and acquaintences they met along the way; towns visited; a carriage ride driven by Dr. Sheldon; the grandeur of the Falls; visits to an old British fort, Queenstown, Tuscararora Indian Village, and Quaker Village; her missing her dear departed brother; and the beauty of Litchfield. The letter is to Henry, but directed to her brother Frederick in New York City, with instructions to forward it to Henry in Paris. Frederick adds a short message to his brother that he is much pleased to learn by this how much pleasure Father and Lucy secured by this journey.
