Scope and Contents
This collection of personal papers documents the life and activities of Edward L. Mabry (1898-1989), the chief executive of Vick Chemical Co. and an accomplished poet, from 1978 to1988. It primarily encompasses his personal life and the eighteen books of poetry and sayings that he published during his lifetime. The majority of collection is comprised of correspondence between Mabry and individuals in his social circle and publishing life as well as writing notes and drafts of his stand-alone poetry and several of his books. The correspondence is largely addressed to Arthur Fowler, Jerry Jackson, and Geraldine. Scattered amongst the collection are assorted bits of ephemera from Mabry's life, including his schedule, assorted memoranda, and two drafts of his last will and testament.

Biographical History
Edward L. Mabry (1898-1989) was the chief executive of Vick Chemical Co. He was hired after graduating from high school in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1916. He worked in accounting, sales, advertising. He was named president in 1948, and chairman in 1957. He retired in 1964 in Litchfield, Connecticut. Over the course of his life, he privately published 18 books of poetry and sayings.

The collection is arranged chronologically within three series, as it was received from the donor without any original order. The sole exception is correspondence that was coupled with existing notes or other documents as maintained by the creator for unknwon reasons. These groupings have been maintained within their respective series of arrangement.
