Scope and Contents

A July 20, 1839 letter (00-2026-33-0) from Litchfield resident and practicing lawyer Origen Storrs Seymour to an "Hon. Tracey" requesting to retain him regarding the case of Huntington and Campbell v. Elisha Lee. Seymour represented W. H. Averill of Cooperstown, New York, his client, during the case. Tracey had represented a man named Collins of Salisbury, Connecticut about a related case of obtaining money under false pretenses, which pushed Seymour to seek his assistance.

The majority of Origen Storrs Seymour's papers held by the Litchfield Historical Society are kept with the Seymour family papers collection (1949-37-0). Also of note is an August 11, 1834 letter from Samuel Phelps to Seymour (00-2020-08-0) and an August 3, 1875 letter (00-2010-185-0) in which Seymour wrote to the distributors of the estate of Samuel R. Hills.
