Scope and Contents
The Litchfield Branch Connecticut Indian Association records (1935-13-0) cover the years 1908 through 1933. The records consist of two bound volumes and a copy of the Society of American Indians' Consitution and By-Laws published in 1916. The first volume of bound records contain envelope files for meetings held from 1908-1918. Each envelope contains newspaper clippings concerning the meetings, and occassionally contain handwritten notes as well. Loose items inserted into the volume include coorespondence with the National Indian Association, as well as a letter from the Connecticut Indian Association requesting a special meeting on April 9, 1924 to discuss the dissolvement of the Connecticut Indian Association. The second bound volume contains meeting minutes for the year 1908 through 1933. Early meetings are recorded in handwritten notes, while the later meetings of represented by newspaper clippings. Also included in the second volume of records is a loose copy of the Litchfield Branch Connecticut Indian Association's constitution and by-laws. The items are currently housed in 3A Box 21.

Biographical or Historical Information
A Branch of the Connecticut Indian Association was organized in Litchfield on or about the year 1883. The objectives of the Litchfield branch were to “aid in securing for the Indians of the United States the same protection by law and education that are enjoyed by other races among us, and to aid the educational, missionary and other work pursued by The National Indian Association.”
