Graves-Ray House Blueprints and Contracts
00-2013-81-0
Scope and Contents
The Graves-Ray House Blueprints and Contracts, 2013-81-0, consists of two contracts and 13 blueprints for the building of a garage, an extension of the dining room, and alterations to the house at 153 South Street in Litchfield, CT. Ross & McNeil Architects from New York City were hired by Elbert B. Hamlin in 1915 for the renovations. Ross & McNeil were also the architects who designed the Noyes Memorial Building, the home of the Litchfield Historical Society Museum. The house was built in 1858 by Henry B. Graves. It was sold to Cornelius M. Ray of Morris in 1865. After his death the house passed to his daughter, Clara Belle Ray. The Rays added the mansard roof, south bay, and reworked the verandah. Elizabeth Hamlin bought the property in 1910. After the death of her husband, Elbert B. Hamlin, she sold the house to Florence D. Blake in 1937, who in turn sold it to Helen Lester in 1945. The house was later owned by Thomas F. and Anne Marie McDermott. This item is housed in Oversize Box 19.
