Scope and Contents
The Daughters of the American Revolution, Mary Floyd Tallmadge Chapter (Litchfield, Conn.) records (2011-18-0, .63 linear feet) consist of research reports regarding lists of American Revolutionary War soldiers from Litchfield and surrounding towns; surveys of churches in Litchfield and Morris; grave records; and a 1779 pay abstract relating to the 13th Regiment Connecticut Militia. Many of the records were created by D.A.R. chapters in surrounding areas and presented to the Litchfield chapter.
Includes the "Subscription Book of the Committee on Memorial Wndow to the Revolutionary Soldiers of Litchfield County, to be given to the Historical Society of Litchfield". This is a list of donors with names of Revolutionary War ancestors. Also a copy of a poem on Chapter stationery "Cakeless Cake Sale". Currently housed in 3A Box 20.
2021-48-0 accrual includes chapter awards, clippings, proclamation, and programs (2019-2021).

Biographical or Historical Information
The Daughters of the American Revolution is a patriotic organization whose objects are perpetuating the memory and spirit of the patriots of the American Revolution and teaching the ideals of American institutions and the duties of the American citizenship to the upcoming generation.
The Litchfield, Conn., chapter of the D.A.R. is named for Mary Floyd Tallmadge (1764-1805), the wife of Col. Benjmain Tallmadge. An army officer, chief intelligence officer, and organizer of the Culper spy ring during the Revolutionary War, Tallmadge became a businessman and U.S. Representative from Connecticut in Congress after the war. The Mary Floyd Tallmadge Chapter was organized in 1899.
