Litchfield's Bi-Centennial celebration 1920 album(1966-08-0) contains photographs from the August 1 through August 4, 1920 Bicentennial celebration in Litchfield, Connecticut. Photographs depict the various activities that took place during the celebration, including the Governor's visit on "State Day," the parade on "County Day," and the community picnic and historic masque on "Litchfield Day." Also included in the photo album are a small amount of newspaper clippings detailing the events. The item is currently housed in 3A Box 7.

Biographical or Historical Information
From August 1 through August 4 of 1920 the town of Litchfield, Connecticut celebrated its Bicentennial. This four day event was comprised of a variety of activities that were enjoyed by citizens of all ages. Each day was celebrated thematically. Sunday, August 1 was designated "Religious and Educational Day," The day was begun with the various churches in town holding anniversary services, and the Band of the 2nd Company, Governor's Foot Guard held a concert in West Park in the evening. Monday, August 2 was celebrated as "State Day," and was marked by a visit of the Governor and a parade of military and political figures and organizations. "County Day" was celebrated on August 3. A parade was held at noon, and various towns from the county participated with granges, fire departments, scouts, and other organizations marching. A baseball game between New Milford and Litchfield, as well as a concert were also held that day. The final day of the Bi-Centennial was "Litchfield Day." On August 4 a community picnic lunch was held. The day was also marked by a historical address, concert, historic masque, and a community dance.
