Biography

Minerva Buel Blake was born on November 16, 1860 in Litchfield, Connecticut to Henry Wadhams Buel (1820-1893) and Mary Ann Laidlaw Buel (1822-1864). After Henry Buel died in 1893, he left the family property at 258 North Street to Minerva Buel Blake and her sister, Katherine Lefferts Buel. Minerva Blake would spend time between the property in Litchfield, Connecticut and property up in Deer Isle, Maine. Upon Katherine Leffert Buel's death in 1935, Minerva Buel Blake inherited her shares in the 258 North Street property. She would later sell the property to Virginia Carroll in 1943 and convert the carriage house to the north into a residence. On September 18, 1953 at the age of 93, she would pass away in Stonington, Maine; her body would be buried in East Cemetery in Litchfield, Connecticut.
