Biography
Alexander Metcalf Fisher was born in 1794 in Franklin, Massachusetts. He graduated from Yale in 1813. By 1815 he was hired as a tutor at Yale, and then promoted to adjunct professor of mathematics and natural philosophy in 1817. In 1822 he planed a trip to Europe to visit the universities and learn different methods of teaching mathematics. He departed from New York aboard the Albion on April 1, 1822. He died when the ship sank on April 22, 1822. He was engaged to Catherine Beecher.

Abstract
"An Eulogy on Alexander Metcalf Fisher," 1998-41-0, is a printed pamphlet of a eulogy delivered on June 26, 1822 at the Yale College Chapel, delivered by James L. Kingsley. Inside the cover is written in ink the name, "Lydia Dillwyn." On page 19 there is a handwritten note in pencil which reads, "Prof. Kingsley has (very properly) omitted to state the fact his lamented colleague was engaged to be married to an interesting young woman of Litchfield, Connecticut and that in the will he left...
