Biography

Ann Potter McGurk was born on February 29, 1936, Worcester, MA, to Laurence and Betty Lee Potter in 1936. She attended high schools in Japan, Maine, and Virginia, then Marietta College in Ohio. Ann Potter married Terrence J. McGurk in 1957. They lived in Colorado, Idaho, Georgia, Wyoming and Indiana, before moving to Deer Island in 1961 and Litchfield in 1962. She co-founded the local chapter of Friends In Service Here (FISH) and was a founding member of the Litchfield County's League of Women Voters. She was also a hospice volunteer and a foster parent, a tutor, and substitute teacher. She also volunteered for The Box Project, Cub Scouts, the Red Cross, and her local church fundraisers.
