Susan Mary (Loring) Jackson was born in Boston in 1823, the daughter of Charles Greely Loring and Anna Pierce (Brace) Loring. In 1843 she married Patrick Tracy Jackson and they had 4 children. As a child she often stayed with her great aunts, Sarah and Mary Pierce, in Litchfield, Conn.

The Loring Family Correspondence consists primarily of letters to and from Mary Pierce.
