Beach, Lucy Sheldon, 1788-1889

Lucy Sheldon Beach was the daughter of Huldah Stone Sheldon (1759-1817) and Dr. Daniel Sheldon (1750-1840) of Litchfield, Conn. She attended the Litchfield Female Academy from 1801 until 1803. In 1832, she married wealthy Litchfield merchant Dr. Theron Beach (1785-1864). They had no children. At some point in the mid-1800s, Elizbeth Prince Child, Lucy's first cousin once removed (Elizabeth was the granddaughter of Lucy's aunt Dothe Stone Cutler (1756-1805)), moved in with her. Lucy lived in the Sheldon house on North Street for her entire life and died in 1889.

Lucy Sheldon in New York writes to her mother Huldah Sheldon (Mrs. Daniel) in Litchfield about her trip by coach to New Haven and then by packet boat to New York. She gives her impressions of life in the city.
