This is the first daybook listing the transactions of Boardman's store in New Preston. It includes numerous lengthy transactions with the New Milford store. It provides detailed accounting of goods and services purchased for the construction of the New Preston store as well as a barn. The charges and credits include lodging and food for the workmen.

The goods bought and sold to and from local residents are typical of the goods sold in the New Milford store, such as butter, pork, fabric, spices, combs, etc.

This volume contains numerous transactions with Henry Seymour who appears to have been working for Boardman as well as trading hats for his brother Ozias Seymour. There are several entries for his hiring a horse to return home to Litchfield, as well as entries for his new clothing and regimental uniform, as well as lost time for regimental training. Henry and Ozias were brothers of Moses Seymour, Jr., with whom Boardman operated a dry goods store, Boardman and Seymour, in Litchfield, Connecticut.

There is one mention of an African American person in this volume. Several entries for Andrew Summers in July of 1800 on pages 352-353 mention items delivered by “Caesar Negro.” On page 418, an entry for Andrew Summers lists “To disct with Ceasar Bailey by your verbal order.” The next entry is for Ceasar Bailey and includes “By disct with Andrew Summers.”
