Scope and Contents
This daybook begins with October of 1798 and continues through the beginning of March 1799. It contains a number of entries for the New Milford Land Company including one on page 26 for cash paid to laborers for digging potatoes; one on page 81 for rum drunk at the store by men returning from "New Connecticut"; page 125 for food items such as meat, apples, and cider; page 454 for sending Nathaniel Blakesly of Roxbury to New Connecticut; an entry on page 496 for Boardman's time writing and examining accounts; and several entries for postage. Other entries indicate business Boardman was conducting on behalf of the town of New Milford, including time spent working with the turnpike company; working on the highway by the Kent line; entries for the Osatonik Turnpike Company (present day CT Route 34); and, on several occassions, meeting with the authority on Small Pox. Of local interest is a stone sink for Dr. Sheldon; several entries for Boardman & Seymour including one referencing printer Thomas Collier; and a number of entries for Wadsworth & Kirby's mill. Pages 524 and 532 make reference to shipping a portrait of Daniel Boardman to Newfield, the artist is not identified. The last three pages of the daybook contain extensive accounts of pork and beef shipped to the care of R. Lines.
