In the second letter, he discusses business, William’s journey with Winthrop H. Phelps, and a need for a new pair of gloves. In the third letter, William describes how he wants to make his wife happy and why he is staying away on business longer. Also described are church and visits with friends. In the fifth letter, William describes some daily activities and some suggestion to Chloe to improve her health.
