2 letters, in the first letter the writer talks about things he is doing, church activities, news of friends, and his opinion on the war.  In the second letter, S.S. gives his opinion on Winthrop being a Chaplain, talks about the capturing of a wanted man, the death of their friend, and about a tract he wrote for the soldiers. Included in this letter is the tract S.S. wrote entitled, “The Inevitable Contest.” The tract is about how there are numerous ways service in the military will end and the fight will be over but that the fight with death is never over, and that it is necessary to be a true Christian in order to be ready to face this battle.
