Scope and Contents
Cornelia E. Boardman writes to her mother Mary Anna Whiting Boardman from New York. Thanks her for her letter via Mr. Lockwood; notes that she had been checking the post daily to no avail; apologizes for the length of time her letters are taking to arrive home; tells her mother that her sister Caroline Boardman Schroeder and "her little 'Mary Anna Boardman' continue to do very well, the baby grows finely and will I trust prove worthy of her name, which is indeed dear to us all;" notes that she has a cold and had a good sweat with catnip tea; expresses sorrow that she cannot be with Julia in her sickness and wishes to see her one more time in this world; blames Mr. Huntington [probably Enoch Huntington, pastor of Trinity Church in New Milford] for not counseling young people in these matters; gives details about fabrics she has purchased and undergarments she has made and is in want of; will not leave soon as her sister and brother-in-law are both unwell.
