Cornelia E. Boardman writes to her mother Mary Anna Whiting Boardman from New York. Notes that her mother will hear from her via letters she has written to Eliza Todd and Uncle Sherman but feels that the time of separation seems shorter with frequent letters; expresses surprise that Orinda (Cornelia’s cousin Esther Orinda Boardman married Federal Vanderburgh) would make such a short visit to Baltimore as she and her husband will soon move to their new house near Washington parade ground; Charlotte and Mary (their children) are as gay as ever; describes them as extravagant and giddy; describes Dr. Vanderburgh’s account of the illness of the wife of Dr. Taylor; talks about an exhibition at the mission school and her efforts to raise funds; describes her sister’s weakness in the lower part of her body; Eliza has been unwell and the doctor gave her calomel; describes the bargains she found when shopping for her sister; asks to have a corset made a full inch wider on each side than the last time, says she is growing fat and weighs 126; asks Emma to sew cushions for the sofa.
