Cornelia E. Boardman writes to her sister Caroline Schroeder to thank her for writing and express the pleasure with which she receives her letters. Expresses thanks to Mr. St. John for the trees which are all planted near the house for fear of thieves. She hadn’t been outdoors for several days but bundled up and wrapped her face to see about the planting. Writes that her face is better than when she last wrote. She notes a letter from William asking when Eliza would be coming so that he might meet her in Bridgeport. He intends to bring a member of Congress from South Carolina to Thanksgiving dinner. They will serve pumpkin pies and nut cakes and will invite Uncle Sherman’s family, Mrs. Wright and Ellen or Mr. and Mrs. Huntington. She discusses groceries, Caroline’s family affairs, and the potential evils of dancing. She also admonishes her sister not to mourn for her dead child, saying she is happy. Notes that Aunt B. is gaining slowly and mother is well. She closes, “Burn this letter at once_”
