Scope and Contents

Two letters, from Benjamin Tallmadge to his daughter Maria and to Governor John Treadwell of CT. To Maria, he writes of the difficulties his minority political party faces in Washington, including his efforts to defeat a bill to raise a standing army.

Tallmadge's note to Treadwell indicates an enclosed letter to General Jedidiah Huntington on the subject of the militia.
