Obituary of Capt. William E. Dickinson (1824-1899) copied by Donald S. Richard from a Florence, Wis., newspaper clipping dated Jun. 17, 1899. Dickinson was born in New York City, was raised and educated in Litchfield, practiced law in Stonington, moved to the upper mid-west in 1850 and was active in copper, gold and silver mine management. He served as district attorney twice, was married four times and had 10-11 children. None of his biographies indicate he served in the military or why he was referred to as “Captain.”
