Invoice and letter from James Humphrey, Jr., Litchfield Enquirer, 1973-7-19, is a letter dated October 23, 1862 and an invoice (the date is cut out of the invoice) for expenses for printing advertisements of General and Special Orders in the Litchfield Enquirer in 1862. The invoice has notations of payment from the Connecticut Adjutant General's Office. James Humphrey, Jr. was born in Norfolk, Connecticut on December 3, 1837. He graduated from Amherst College in 1856 and married Charlotte Deming of Litchfield onJune 17, 1863. On October 13, 1859 he bought the Litchfield Enquirer and served as its editor until 1865. He died in Brooklyn, New York on November 6, 1868.
