Stephanie Whitney Cunningham manuscript (2011-29-0) is an unfinished manuscript draft of "From Bride to Great-Grandmother in Litchfield" by Stephanie Whitney Cunningham. Written in a small spiral bound notebook, the manuscript gives insight into the author's life in Litchfield, as well as the social scene, families, buildings, etc. that were present in the community in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. There is a typewritten transcript of the manuscript.

Biographical or Historical Information

Stephanie Whitney Cunningham was a native of Oakland, California. Born in 1869, her parents were G.E. Whitey and his wife Mary L. Whitney. In 1887 she traveled to the east coast where she attended Wellsley College through the year 1888. In 1892 Stephanie married Seymour Cunningham (b.1864), a businessman from in New York. The couple resided in Litchfield, Connecticut where they had four children and remained active in the community throughout their lives.
