In the second letter, Lucy tells Winthrop of some home remedies for illness along with her plan to send him pills. She also talks about visits with friends and family. The last letter talks about the directions on using pills she is sending Winthrop and an unexpected visitor she had.

Half of this contains notes on the history of the 2nd Connecticut Volunteer Artillery's enagements, troop movement, and some quotes from the diary about these things. The other half mainly contains background information on things and people mentioned and dates of occurrence in the diary of Winthrop H. Phelps. Some of the page numbers for these entries are listed.
