Harley Morse probate account

Scope and Contents The Harley Morse probate account (2011-40-0) is a handwritten record of the cash estate of Harley Morse after his death on December 21, 1870. The notebook contains entries beginning January 3, 1771 noting the monetary activities of the estate at the First National Bank in Litchfield. Also in the notebook are several receipts concerning the funeral and burial of Harley Morse, as well as other items relating to his estate.

Jane Amelia Benton school book

Scope and Contents The Jane Amelia Benton school book (2011-90-0) was kept in 1855. The book contains notes on history lessons that Jane received while attending school in Litchfield in 1855. Her sister Phebe attended school with her at the same time. The book also contains the name of the other pupils in her class. It also identifies the teacher as S.H. Vaill.

Litchfield Law School collection

Abstract This collection includes materials pertaining to Tapping Reeve, James Gould, the Litchfield Law School, and alumni of the school.  It was assembled by the Historical Society over a period of years.  Many of the law books used by Reeve and his students are also held by the Society and can be found through the book catalog.  The Society's institutional records document the history of the Tapping Reeve House and Litchfield Law School building.

Karl, and the papers include items related to her 13-year-old son William Raymond Karl, who had the unfortunate distinction of being Litchfield's first motor vehicle fatality in 1915. William C. Karl was one of seven Karl brothers who came to Litchfield with their parents, Peter and Wilhelmina Hudel Karl, in the 1880s. William died in 1903....

Scope and Contents The Maria Tallmadge Cushman home remedies notebook (1949-39-0) was compiled by Maria Tallmadge Cushman from the year 1840 through 1864. The small notebook contains home remedies for illness as well as many recipes and hints for household cleaning. Many of the remedies are handwritten, and a fair amount are newspaper clippings. Scope and Contents The Minnie Braman composition book (2011-43-0) contains various compositions written by Minnie Braman between 1879 and 1880. Her composition titled "Litchfield" describes the layout of the town by discussing the streets, green, and buildings. "My Trip to New York" discusses a day trip by train into New York City at Christmastime. She discusses the window displays, shopping at Macy's, and browing in Tiffany's.
