Scope and Contents
Two letters to Kate from her friend Maria in Bristol, Ct. and Coleys Store, postmarked New Haven. Writes about mutual friends - Esther Hazen and Jane Upson - and Kate's musical talent. Esther Hazen and Jane Upson were both students at Judea Female Seminary in the term ending March 21, 1849 with Kate. Maria is most likely Sarah Maria Minor, who grew up in Northfield and attended the Judea Female Seminary at the same time as Kate, Esther and Jane. She married George W. Beach in November 1852, and so these letters were written prior to that time for she writes about being single.
