Pamphlet is a printing of his October 1930 Address to the Councillors of Hereford. King George V appointed John Masefield Poet Laureate in 1930, possibly on the 1924 recommendation of the UK’s first Labour Party Prime Minister, Ramsay MacDonald*, who again became minority party Prime Minister in 1929 and remained PM until 1935. Masefield held the honorary post of Poet Laureate until his death in 1967. The Address focuses, in part, on England's rural life. Masefield delivered it to an audience near his boyhood home in Herefordshire, an agriculturally bountiful region in the UK's scenic West Midlands. Masefield: "Whenever I think of Paradise, I think of parts of this County. Whenever I think of a perfect Human State, I think of parts of this County. Whenever I think of the bounty and beauty of God, I think of parts of this County."
