Bull, Glebe House, Litchfield, Connecticut".] Masefield likely visited Litchfield with his wife Constance while staying at 107 East 70th Street, the NYC home of Thomas William and Florence Corliss Lamont. Here Masefield replies to Bull’s ‘kind letter’ and insists that, next time, ‘we must see more of you’. He thanks Bull for helping them make the train ‘easily’; regrets not having seen ‘the gun carriages’ and draws a tiny gun carriage; closes with ‘many remembrances to’ Bull and good wishes to her Aunts, Brother, and Mrs. Spinney (co-founder of the Spring Hill School). In the envelope, a separate, small piece of paper also bears his handwriting: “The days that make us happy make us wise. J. Masefield.”
